Welcome to Mitcham Chapel AME Church - Royal Oak, MI Church

The Reverend Barbara J. Anthony  is the Pastor Emerita of Mitcham Chapel  African Methodist Episcopal Church.  Married to John Anthony, together they have two lovely daughters.    

In May 1985, Rev. Anthony, a cherished member of this congregation, responded to the call of God through the leading of the Holy Spirit to begin a new work. She shared the vision with Reverend David E. Mitcham, former pastor of Oak Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church, who offered his unwavering support and encouragement. Reverend Anthony, along with several current and former members of Oak Grove, stepped out in faith and laid the foundation for what would become Mitcham Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Throughout its history, God has faithfully provided for Mitcham Chapel, opening doors and making a way where there seemed to be none. One of the most significant milestones came when the congregation was blessed with the opportunity to purchase its current church home at 4207 W. 14 Mile Road in Royal Oak, Michigan. Through God's provision and a land contract negotiated with the property's owners, the Korean Assemblies of God, the vision became a reality.

On March 27, 2011, the congregation officially entered its new place of worship. On that memorable day, Presiding Elder Norman V. Osborne (Retired) of the South District delivered a powerful and prophetic message entitled, “Standing on Tiptoe Looking to God.” The Word was preached with profound anointing and continues to resonate within the life of this church. Its message remains a reminder of the faith, expectancy, and dependence upon God that have sustained Mitcham Chapel throughout its journey and continue to serve as a foundation for its future.
